Approach
How do you build a resort that belongs to its mountain — not just sits on it?
Perched on a plateau above a 400-year-old village, Al Hamra Resort looks out across the valleys of Oman's Al Hajar Mountains. Our brief was singular: design a destination that is unmistakably Omani, yet feels current to the world. The concept rests on three ideas drawn from the country itself — prestige in its mountain ranges, heritage in its craft, harmony in its nomadic culture of arts and cuisine. The palette follows the land: desert ochre, mountain green, and the turquoise of the Arabian Sea. Accent tones are pulled, quite literally, from a cup of Karak tea and a handful of Baharat spice — so the color story tastes of Oman, not just looks like it. Buildings step down with the topography rather than cutting into it. Locally sourced plaster, stone, and timber are layered against contemporary forms; woven patterns become screens and textiles; age-old plaster techniques are reinterpreted, not copied. Prefabrication, natural ventilation, and daylighting keep the resort light on its landscape. The result is a resort that doesn't perform Omani heritage — it continues it.
