Approach
What ties together a lakeside address, Thai culture and Japanese culture? Water.
Overlooking the lake at Benjakitti Park, Shama Lakeview Asoke takes water as its single organising idea — fitting for a place where water runs through Thai culture, from Songkran to Loi Krathong, and through Japanese culture as a symbol of purity and calm. The lobby makes the theme unmistakable: a vast custom wave chandelier of handmade Murano-glass "water drops" ripples across the ceiling, scattering light over a dark, water-like marble floor below. Soft curved lines, natural materials, light grey tones and timber screens carry the calm through the lounge, reception and lift lobbies, while commissioned pieces by local ceramic artists continue the water motif. The effect is an oasis of stillness in the middle of Bangkok's busiest district. The result is a serviced residence with a strong, place-specific identity — a lakeside sense of purification and ease, anchored by one of the studio's most memorable signature lighting features.
