Approach
The site was once Mylapore's cinema — so how should the building remember that?
Before it was a residence, the Kamadhenu site was a beloved Mylapore cinema and a venue for celebrations. The design takes that memory as its brief: the public spaces are themed around cinematic nostalgia, reworked into modern minimalism. The lobby sets the tone — velvet seating, marble floors and brass accents under dramatic, theatre-like lighting, with art referencing classic cinema. The idea carries through the amenity floor: a library paired with a private screening room, a game room, gym and yoga studio, and a multipurpose hall with a proper stage for Carnatic music and Kolkali folk performance — culture kept live in the building. The 3- and 4-bedroom show units turn quieter and warmer, with soft neutral palettes, fluted timber, marble and ikat-patterned accents. The result is a luxury residence that feels rooted in Mylapore — carrying a much-loved address into its next chapter without losing what made it memorable. Press: Featured in Appaswamy's project magazine, which traces the site's history from beloved Mylapore cinema to contemporary residence.
